The good thing about forums and online communities is that you can target a certain group that fits the certain demographic that you are looking for. You can discuss and comment about lots of things and of course about the niche that you represent or your offer.
With comments and discussions you can also build yourself a reputation for your business by showing your range of expertise and authority on the subject and thus build long term relationships and trust, building your list and your network.
Forums are many and varied, choose the one that covers your topic or niche and be consistent with your postings. Add a signature to your posts that will attract a click thru and a possible free lead. Most forums allow a few lines for a signature with your business link. Be sure to read the rules on each forum before posting. Certain remarks could get you banned.
