Meaning of Psychic Readings

The word psychic comes from the Greek word Psychicos, and “refers to a claimed ability to perceive information hidden from the normal senses through extrasensory perception or to people said to have such abilities.” (Wikipedia) It can also denote the ability of the mind to influence psychically and to telekinetic powers as claimed by Uri Geller.

Psychic Readings vs. Science

While there is no scientific evidence for paranormal abilities, history shows that humans have always felt the need for yet another dimension which may have been associated to Religion, Mysticism, Kabbalism, Gnosticism and later Parapsychology. The discussion about the existence of para-psychological abilities boils down to the same chicken and egg race as the question whether God has created Man or whether it was the other way around as claimed by some Philosophers such as Nietsche in the late 19th century.

Fact is that what we don’t understand and what we cannot explain and define with mathematics, needs to have a special drawer in our brain: when you believe, we call it Religion and when you sense the unexplainable we go for Parapsychology.

Is it really important to know whether something exists or not? Is it important to define everything with traditional methods and parameters? I say no, but what is important is that those who claim being psychics create their language which by it’s sheer semantics can treat the topic and the phenomenons observed. We then can learn that language for more insight.

Every profession traditionally creates it’s lingo and every corporation finally protects it’s findings and the access to it by coding the essence of the knowledge. Think about medical doctors, priests, lawyers and IT freaks.

Fact is also that not all coded professional knowledge is correct and the shift from non scientific to scientific knowledge over the last 2000 years has been amazing: as our scientific knowledge increases, the believes-drawer decreases in size. When Jesus was born, the earth was a flat land surrounded by sea and it was the center of the universe; it took over 15 centuries to make the earth round and letting it move around the sun.

A few years ago, when we went to school, the atom was the smallest unit we could think of, today the atom is a huge thing.

In any case, scientists have always been inspired by the paranormal as a source for topics of research and writers and movie producers have created science fiction to find that what is defined (scientifically) is less interesting that the undefined.

The “undefined” leaves room and space and time within which we float and navigate with natural sensors beyond the scientific understanding level. Searching in the psychic spheres is pushing the limits further, whether it’s substantiated by scientifically exploitable data or not, is not important – by definition.

But then, as the inexplicable attracts people’s minds, from religion to superstition to the paranormal, it’s also a good multi-billion business opportunity … and that’s what our capitalist system of values needs to keep the world spinning.
