RSS Syndication and Feed Source Management
One of the ways to load automated content is by using feeds and ‘convert’ your blog into a feed reader. The principle is simple: you add feed sources directly to your blog and publish the content, either as is or after filtering or editing it, epending on the contents and sources.
For this purpose we use the FeedWordpress Plugin.
From your Dashboard go back to Plugins and Activate FeedWordPress:
Now you will find a new sub-menu called Syndication Dashboard; follow the link and open Options.
Options are sitewide default settings, these settings can be overwritten for individual feeds.
I will give here basic settingswhich work for about every use you make. Depending on your own needs you may change these settings later to optimize the flow.
Below this author’s field, dont change anything.
As mentionned above: these are default settings and you are flexible thereafter to customize each feed you use.
Save these settings.
Select now Syndication from the sub-menu:
Enter a feedlink into the relevant field:
Example: http://yconomy.net/feed
Click on Syndicateand you get:
If the result is ok, select this feed by clicking ‘Use this feed’. By default the aggregator will look for RSS2 feeds. Depending on what your source feeds, your aggregator is able to import RSS, RSS2 and Atom.
Once you accept the feed, you are taken back tothe Syndication Pannel where you can update, delete or edit your imported feeds:
Edit now the new Feed Source to define the use you will make of it.
Again, I will just make a suggestion for default dettings wich wor in most of the cases; you will fine tune in function of your particular purpose and of the source.
Save Changes and return to the sub-menu Syndication. There you update the feed now:
Tick the checkbox to the right of the concerned link and select Update Checked Links:
You get the confirmation that x posts have been imported.
You are done, your Feed will do it’s job without your intervention.
Please read our recommendation about the use of feeds; don’t overdo it!
You may add as many feeds you like, whereas you should make sure that they are contextual with the purpose of your site.
